Key Stage 3
About the product
The worksheets include the lesson objective:
By the end of today's lesson you will be able to construct accurate 4 figure grid references and solve the mystery "Where is Gareth's Gate??"
The worksheets then have activities designed to show the difference between co-ordinates and grid references and simple 4 figure grid references questions based on a simple map (which is provided) of Middlesbrough. The third activity is the one the students love. It is a mystery called "Where is Gareth's Gate?" Gareth Southgate (the Middlesbrough Manager) has had part of his last name stolen by a name thief. There are various clues as to where you will find the missing letters that eventually name the thief, obviously the use of 4 figure grid references and the OS map are required (OS map not provided). Following on from this the students are asked to design their own mystery and to construct a simple map similar to the last mystery and to complete this for homework.
